WEEKEND PUBLIC PROGRAMS SUPERVISOR

PART-TIME POSITION OPENING – FEB. 2013

Challenger Space Center Arizona is looking for a Weekend Public Programs Supervisor to provide engaging and inspiring informal science education opportunities to enhance the visitor experience. This is a management position that will oversee weekend operation duties at the Center. The Weekend Programs Manager will provide leadership to enable the best possible science education and customer service experience for events, tours, birthday parties, scout programs, stargazing programs, planetarium and science demonstrations. These programs will focus on STEM topic areas with the unique spotlight of the institute’s interest in space and planetary science.

The ideal candidate has supervisory experience at a non-profit with staff, budgets, contracts and event or program facilitation. The manager must be outgoing, positive, motivating, extremely organized and detail-oriented and able to simultaneously plan, manage and organize several projects at the same time.

Duties and responsibilities:

Responsible for facility operations on weekend and holiday: includes open and close of the building, exhibits, gift shop, and program set-up/clean-up and staffing
Develop program content and curriculum , facilitated visitor experiences such as temporary exhibits, tours, scout programs, demonstrations
Oversee check-in of visitors for public tours, missions, birthday parties, Planetarium programs, Star Nights, and gift shop purchases

Oversee the hiring of program staff and manage staff expectations and performance through training, observation, advising and mentoring, staff evaluations, disciplinary actions and HR procedures. As well as being prepared to fill in as needed if a staffing emergency arises.

Position is part time and scheduled is for weekends, public holidays and occasional weekday events with an average 20-28 hours per week.
