The Challenger Learning Center of Arizona
is a unique educational and developmental community
initiative to create a space flight simulator facility in
Peoria, Arizona. The primary purpose of this facility is
to motivate and encourage young people in science,
technology, mathematics and teamwork. It provides
students with a remarkable and memorable experience
within the context of current educational dynamics
through a real-time simulated space flight mission.

The program is focused on
fulfillment of a common goal: to
provide students of all ages with an innovative
and creative educational experience designed to
positively impact the larger perspectives of
career planning, community contributions and
economic self-reliance. It brings the applied
fields of sciences and mathematics into sharp
focus within a relevant and meaningful
educational framework. |
The Center provides a variety of programs and opportunities. It
offers a series of on-site "missions"
involving simulated space ship flight crews, mission
controllers, and scientists. The sophistication of these
missions are tailored for the age of groups
participating. In addition to simulated missions, the
Center offers special weekend
programs as well as a series of guest speakers. The
Center has programs to meet the needs of a very diverse audience.
Currently, tforty-two Challenger
Learning Centers are in operation throughout the
United States, Canada, and the UK. The Challenger
Learning Center of Arizona will be built in
association with the Challenger
Center for Space Science Education, which was
established in Washington, DC in 1986 by the
families of NASA’s Challenger space shuttle crew.
