GOALS AND
BENEFITS
The Challenger Learning Center of
Arizona has a set of goals which will accrue substantial
benefits to individuals and organizations in Arizona and
the Southwest. These goals are organized into two
categories – Educational and Community/Economic
development.
Education
The primary mission of the Center is
education, thus attainment of the following goals will be
given the highest priority when making decisions about
implementation and allocation of resources. In short, the
Center seeks to:
- Promote student achievement of specified learning
objectives in science, mathematics, technology
and communications.
- Create opportunities for students to engage in
"experiential learning" and
"collaborative learning" during which
they will apply knowledge and skills attained to
solve actual and simulated problems.
- Teach students workplace skills related to
communication, interpersonal relations and
teamwork.
- Introduce students to the concept of
"school-to-work" by suggesting and
studying careers in aerospace, engineering,
science, mathematics and technology.
- Increase the knowledge which teachers have in
science, mathematics and technology curriculum.
- Introduce new methods of pedagogy (i.e.
"action orientated learning") to
teachers and administrators.
Community/Economic Development
In addition to its primary mission, the
Center’s secondary set of goals is to improve the
community at-large and add revenue to the local economy.
Specifically, the Center will seek to:
Increase the understanding
which business people and government officials
have of their public school system (by enabling
them to observe and participate in an actual
public education experience).
Link business people,
government officials and educators in a shared
experience (which will improve their ability to
communicate on issues of education reform).
