May 29, 2004 6:30pm – 9pm On selected weekend evenings, the Challenger Space Center hosts a fun-filled family evening featuring space-themed events and games, along with an entertaining and interactive Stargazing program using high-powered telescopes. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for family activities. Hot dogs, chips, and soda are available for a nominal fee. At approximately 7:30 p.m., the telescopes are set up. The program consists of a slide presentation on the constellations and planets, with information on upcoming sky events. Included are stories of the night sky, featuring folklore from many different cultures. Attendees can then look through several different high-powered telescopes at the moon, planets, star clusters, etc. Stargazing is an outdoor program, so consider bringing a water bottle and lawn chairs or blankets. In case of inclement weather, an alternative program will be provided. Stargazing is presented at the Challenger Center by Tony and Carole LaConte of Stargazing for Everyone. Cost: Stargazing is $6/adults; $4/seniors and children ages 6-18; free for children under age 6. Challenger Center members are free. Hot dogs, chips, and soda are an additional nominal fee. |
