Plan Your School’s Space Science Day!

1
TOYS IN SPACEGrades K – 6 (1 hour) $150.00
This unique offering provides teachers and students a fascinating look into the world of weightlessness (microgravity) through the use of common toys taken into space. Students will initially experience and observe the behavior of everyday toys including yo-yos, tops, gyroscopes and paddleballs, and then make predictions of how each would behave in the near absence of gravity. Students will have the opportunity to observe the actual behavior of each toy as tested by NASA astronauts in space.
2
ROCKETRY LEVEL IGrades K – 4 (1 hour) $150.00
Participants will learn about basic rocketry through the use of Alka Seltzer, film canister rockets. This fun and interactive session will provide students with a unique format to explore how rockets work, basic knowledge of propellants, and predicting of events. Your students will enjoy this session!
3
ROCKETRY LEVEL IIGrades 5 – 9 (1 hour) $225.00
Participants will take the basics of rocketry to new heights with a specialized precurriculum where groups of students will design, construct, test, and launch a water powered rocket. This session offers a unique teambuilding environment that showcases creativity, problem solving skills, and communication.
4
INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATIONGrades 5 – 8 (2 hours) $225.00
Participants will learn what is involved in building the International Space Station by assembling a model of the station using the modular component system Googleplex. Students will learn about some of the basic modules, which will gradually be assembled and the purpose behind each will be explained. Current updates and future missions will be discussed as well.
5
ROBOTICSGrades 5 – 8 (2 hours) $250.00
This unique selection will provide teachers and students with a dynamic vehicle to learn about the exciting world of robotics. Students will learn first-hand how to build, test, and evaluate robotic designs. Many important science concepts and principles will be covered, including classification, nomenclature development, hypothesizing, basic circuitry, wheels and axles, levers, center of gravity, gears, end effectors, predicting, testing, and much more. Also discussed will be relevant applications to existing technology, including the Mars Rover projects scheduled for the year 2003.
6
SPACE PROBES & STARDUSTGrades 6 – 8 (1 hour) $150.00
Utilizing the modular component system Googleplex, students and teachers will learn how probes are assembled and used to learn about our solar system. The current probe mission, STARDUST, will be highlighted during this offering. STARDUST is currently enroute to the Comet WILD-2 to collect and bring back to Earth actual cometary material for study. Students will assemble a STARDUST replica and learn how this unique mission will gather information about Comet WILD-2.
7
CAREERS IN SPACEGrades 7 – 12 (1 hour) $150.00
Do your students wonder what they want to be when they grow up? This session provides an overview of the challenging world of aviation, space, technological career fields, and a “how-to” to prep your students to keep the dream alive! Students will participate in a seminar environment where all of these exciting fields will be discussed, and their questions answered!
8
LESSONS LEARNED FROM MERCURY, GEMINI, & APOLLOGrades 7 – 12 (2 hours) $225.00
The early days of American spaceflight were more than a challenge, they were a quantum leap in technology and imagination. With an eye on history, this session covers several key lessons learned as Americans watched the space program grow from the late 1950s until the Space Shuttle in 1981. Students will participate in a simulated mission control environment, putting their problem-solving and communication skills to work.
9
HYDROPONICSGrades 4 – 8 (2 hours) $250.00
A journey to Mars will require a continuing supply of food to keep our astronauts healthy. One way of reducing the amount of food carried aboard would be to GROW the food in special laboratories. Laboratories without soil as we know it! Sound interesting? Have your students participate in a project you can enjoy for months on end as you learn to sustain plants using alternative methods in your classroom.
10
LIVING PERMANENTLY ON THE MOON AND MARSGrades 4 – 8 (2 hours) $225.00
In the very near future, human beings will return to our moon, land on Mars to build colonies, and eventually cities, on these forbidding worlds. How will we do it? With your students, review the geography, climates, and challenges of these environments, and create new ways to not just explore these worlds, but to live there permanently.
11
LIVING & WORKING IN SPACEGrades K – 8 (1 hour) $150.00
How many times have you ever been asked questions such as “How does an Astronaut go to the bathroom in space?” Fear no more, your answers are here! In this interactive session, your students have the chance to get all their questions answered. We’ll discuss how astronauts of the past, present, and future live and work in space.
12
ARCHEO-ASTRONOMYGrades 9 – 12 (1 hours) $150.00
This session for older students presents the study of the sky over several thousands of years, through the discoveries of ancient scientists and astronomers such as Galileo. From Stonehenge to the Mayans, discover how the study of the heavens is not purely modern science.
13
HISTORY OF SPACE FLIGHTGrades 4 – 12 (2 hour) $225.00
The history of manned spaceflight is a journey of more than six thousand years from the earliest known rockets in 4000 BC to our ongoing activities aboard the International Space Station. Students will learn not only why man ventured into space, but how we accomplished this amazing feat. They will also gain insight into the personalities of the men and women who risked their lives to gain our foothold in space.
