Space Place For Tots |
| GROUP RESERVATIONS AVAILABLE, ALONG WITH SIX
GENERAL PUBLIC SESSIONS THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER |
| June through August |
Join us with your little ones as we enjoy giving them a warm and cozy introduction to space and science! The two-and-a-half hour Space Place program is designed for children ages 3 through 6, and features space-themed storytime, as well as age-appropriate activities designed to teach preschoolers about our planet, solar system, and what it takes to be an astronaut and live and work in space. Songs, videos, a word wall, and center time consisting of five different interactive activities round out The Space Place program. As part of one of their centers, children design their own unique space helmets to wear in the Challenger Center’s Earth Space Transit Module (ESTM) shuttle simulator as we gently “launch” them into space.
Upcoming Space Place public dates include June 3, June 24, July 1, July 8, August 5, and August 12. Group field trips to The Space Place are available weekdays by reservations only. The Space Place welcomes all pre-schools, kindergartens, mom and tot clubs, and neighborhood groups to make reservations for The Space Place program by calling 623-322-2001. The cost of the program is $8.00 per child (adults are free), which includes a framed photo remembrance of their visit to the Challenger Center. Class size is limited to 25 young astronauts. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The Challenger Center, along with the recently announced McCall Museum of Art, is the only Smithsonian Institution affiliate in the metropolitan Phoenix area, is located at 21170 North 83rd Avenue, north of Union Hills, just off Loop 101. With the completion of Loop 101, there is easy access from the entire East Valley. The Center is directly on 83rd Avenue, between Beardsley and Deer Valley roads, adjacent to the campus of Sunrise Mountain High School. Information: 623-322-2001. |
