For creative first and second graders, we will launch into our course with hands-on activities about the Solar System, living in space, and even learning how astronauts train!

Description:  

Intermediate Rocket Academy builds upon the concepts introduced in the Basic Rocket Academy and introduces advanced rocketry concepts such as multiple stages, payload rockets, and advanced recovery systems. Are you ready for the second stage?

Have you ever wondered how we find out about space? This hands-on academy will have cadets learn about unmanned probes and current space missions and how information is gathered and interpreted.

Name: Basic Rocket Academy

Description:  

Build and fly water and solid-propellant rockets! Learn how to safely launch your machines faster and higher than ever before! Newton’s laws of Motion and the forces that affect rocket flight will be explored, to give you the training you need to be GO for launch.

Description:  

Learn about the basic science behind the design and operation of robots. With Beginning Robotix, Cadets will learn the basics in building and programming robots for simple and complex tasks.

Description:  

Become a tour guide for the Solar System! Participants train to become Planetary Excursion Planners (PEPers), exploring all the member of our Solar System, the scale of the planets, phases of the Moon, the Sun, many more fascinating features in the Solar System.

Description:  

Cadets in this academy will undertake all the necessary training to embark on a Challenger mission: Rendezvous with a comet. The week will include station-specific and whole group activities needed to successfully complete their mission, which will take place on Mission Day in Challenger Learning Center’s state-of-the-art Spacecraft and Mission Control simulators.

Description:  

Mars City Alpha is an exciting classroom simulation that will transform Cadets into scientists and engineers launching an international effort to design the first settlement on Mars. Are you ready for the challenge?

Name: Advanced Robotix
Dates: July 30-August 3 (Session 1)
Time: 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday
Grades: Entering Grades 5-8, Fall of 2001

Description:  

Advanced Robotix will explore more advanced applications of Robotix including advanced programming and complex robotic systems. This session builds upon principles developed in Beginning Robotix, so prior Robotix experience is suggested.

Name: Advanced Rocket Academy

Description:  

Cadets in this academy will design and build their own payload and multistage scientific rockets – from scratch. Each cadet will be tasked with developing his or her own rocket design, then will test it using simulation programs and wind tests. Upon completion of a safe design, cadets will construct their rockets and carry out their program of scientific investigation. The academy will cover in detail Newton’s Laws, the Scientific Method, and the principles of rocket flight and recovery.

Description:  

Do you have the right stuff? Learn what it takes to fly aircraft and spacecraft in this introduction to piloting taught by a former Naval Flight Officer. Learn the principles of flight, aircraft and spacecraft navigation, propulsion, and the basics of stick-and-rudder handling in our simulators. Military and astronaut flight training procedures will be introduced as well.

Description:  

Design the next mission to Mars! Cadets will be tasked with planning every phase of a robotic mission to Mars, from launch to landing on the Red Planet. Cadets will also be responsible for designing and operating a teleoperated Mars Microrover which will complete all mission objectives while exploring a simulated Martian terrain.

Grades: Entering Grades 9-12, Fall of 2001
Cost: $225/cadet
Description:  

Academy cadets are returning to the Moon – this time to stay. Join the crew of the first mission to the lunar surface since Gene Cernan left in the LM Challenger in 1972. Cadets will learn all phases of the mission, including all stations on board the Lunar Colony Module. The academy will culminate on Mission Day with a full simulated mission to the Moon in Challenger Learning Center’s Spacecraft and Mission Control Simulators. You are GO for trans-lunar injection!
