All About Space Missions

WHY YOU SHOULD FLY A MISSION: Families, friends, and teams of co-workers are invited to participate in an exciting space-based learning environment where children, families, senior citizens, corporate teams, and other community members fly simulated space flight missions involving flight crews, mission controllers, and scientists. Everything around participants reminds them of their mission…computer consoles, communication headsets, continuous messages on the loudspeakers, electronic messages, teammates they can only see on video monitors, and hands-on activities at science stations. The primary mission scenario is entitled Rendezvous With a Comet, and includes a unique 12-minute launch and docking experience. The mission is a non-stop adventure featuring space emergencies and more…come on aboard and find out if you’ve got the right stuff!

WHERE YOU WILL FLY A MISSION: The Challenger Center’s Technology Flight Deck features nearly one million dollars in technology, including a Mission Control room designed after Johnson Space Center; the Spacecraft, designed to simulate a room onboard the International Space Station (ISS); and the ESTM, or Earth Space Transit Module, which transports teams of crew members up to dock with the ISS so they can live and work in space.

WHEN YOU CAN FLY A MISSION: The Challenger Center flies public missions Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings that are open to astronaut “wanna-be’s” of all ages. On most Saturdays at 1:00 p.m., it’s Mission Matinee time and the missions are reserved for space enthusiasts ages 9-15. On Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., it’s time for our Early Bird Specials, as we fly Seniors in Space. Details on each category are below.

PUBLIC MISSION LAUNCH DATES AND TIMES

On Thursday evenings, public missions launch promptly at 6:30 p.m. After completing their mission, crews “return to Earth” at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday mornings, public missions fly from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Reservations are required. The price of a boarding pass is only $17.50 for adults, and $15 for children. The mission is not recommended for children under age 6, and youngsters ages 6-9 must be accompanied by a ticketed adult.

SENIORS IN SPACE (EARLY BIRD SPECIALS!) INTENDED FOR ‘MATURE’ AUDIENCES ONLY

On Wednesdays, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., crew members ages 55 and better are invited to come fly with us. These early bird special missions are designed just for the mature audience. As one recent participant commented, “We really messed up during our mission – but we had a blast!” Reservations are required. Tickets are $15 per senior.
