As a “stand-alone” Arizona based 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution, the dollars that we need to raise each year to continue our operations and programs must come from either admissions, program services, memberships, gift shop sales, facility rentals, or private contributions.

Our programs help thousands of students develop the skills that are vital to every professional field. Like no other educational opportunity, Challenger Space Center programs foster science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) literacy. Through team-building missions and workshops, students develop higher-level critical thinking and communication skills that companies increasingly demand from their employees.

Challenger Space Center Arizona receives no funding support from NASA, Smithsonian Institution, Challenger Center for Space Science Education (Challenger National), or the federal government. We are an independent Arizona charity.

Challenger Learning Center of Arizona (d/b/a/ Challenger Space Center Arizona) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, EIN#  86-085183.  Donations are deductible to the extent allowed by law. Gifts may qualify as a charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes. It is always recommended that individuals talk with tax advisers or the IRS to determine whether a contribution is deductible.

Why not designate a contribution to a school/district, receive an Arizona School Tax Credit, and help sponsor a field trip to Challenger Space Center Arizona?

Tax Credits are based on AZ Tax Law.

1.  AZ School Tax Credits for Individuals:  Challenger DOES qualify as “extracurricular activities or character education programs.”  Contributions can be made to public schools directly and the donor may specify the type of extracurricular activity. Once you do contribute to the school, you may ask for a receipt as specified below from the AZ DOR web site. Click here for details:  MORE

AZ DOR - FAQ -  “Must a public school issue a receipt to the taxpayer for cash contributions or payment of extracurricular activity fees?

Yes. The receipt should include the public school name, school district name and number, taxpayer name and address, amount contributed or fees paid, date contributed or paid, and a description of the activity being supported.”

2.  AZ Tax Credit For Contributions To A Qualifying Charitable Organization. Challenger does NOT meet the criteria for this as we are an educational charity and not a “basic human needs” charity.

Some corporations will match employee-sponsored projects in the form of cash or other contributions. Ask you
r human resources department about these opportunities.

Some of our volunteers who work for corporations like Honeywell and General Dynamics are able to track their volunteer hours at Challenger Space Center, and those volunteer hours translate into cash donations by the corporation to Challenger Space Center. For more information please contact our Donations & Accounting Office at 623-322-2012 or email

“Planned Giving” is the name commonly associated with estate planning. Challenger gratefully accepts endowment gifts. Including the Challenger Space Center in your Planned Giving can accomplish several major goals such as making a permanent impact on the fi
nancial stability of the Center, honoring the memory of a loved one, achieving a charitable income tax deduction or obtaining estate tax savings.

If you wish, the Challenger Space Center Development Office would be pleased to provide you with additional information on making a planned gift and we can provide you with the names of qualified tax attorneys, accountants and financial advisors who can advise you on the benefits of making a planned gift.
