“Understanding the Nature of Light"
Friday afternoons at 2:00pm

Sunlight. Starlight. Candlelight. Laser light. Light is all around us. Light lets us see things close by and in the farthest reaches of our Universe. The light we see is only a very small part of the electromagnetic spectrum. But what is light and how does it relate to magnetism and electricity? Light travels in waves. Magnets generate a magnetic field. If you move a magnet in a wire coil, you can generate electricity. If you pass electricity through a wire coil, you can make a magnet. Why, the whole thing is just confusing enough to make your hair stand on end and electricity can do that, too. The Challenger Space Center is proud to present Understanding
the Nature of Light.

This eye opening hour-long demonstration facilitated by our Flight Director explains light and its relationship to electricity and magnetism. You’ll see lightning. You’ll explore magnetism and the electromagnetic spectrum. Whether your session is conducted at the Challenger Space Center or in your classroom, it wi’ll be absolutely electrifying and illuminating as well.
