Chemistry of the Solar System
If you were a space pioneer, what would you need to know to set up a base camp on Mars or a distant moon like Triton, Titan or Europa? Could you grow food in the soil and breathe without a spacesuit? Explore ideas for future space colonization during this week of fun – and messy! – chemistry experiments.
Gemini campers can attend either the morning or afternoon session or can combine both for a full-day camp experience.
Each session includes age-appropriate hands-on activities and fun projects.
Full-day campers must bring a sack lunch.
Maximum enrollment: 25 children per session.
One day, explorers from Earth will be living in space giving rise to an entirely new breed of engineers, needing to design their own space habitats. The structures must be sturdy, yet lightweight, so they can be transported through the Earth’s gravitational field. Campers design, build and test prototype structures for outer space living.
What happens when an astronaut opens a bag of M&M'S in a spaceship? Would the same thing happen if they were outside the spaceship? We can simulate space experiments with objects like bouncing balls, rolling chairs, and spinning turntables. Campers will help create games to play in “space” that demonstrate the forces of physics.
Life in Space
One of the objectives of space exploration is to search for life, but how do we determine if something we find in space is truly alive? Explore how scientists define life, what is needed to maintain life, and how a voyage into space affects the human body.

Challenger Space Center doors open at 8:45am for camp check in.
A $5 for every 5 minutes late fee will be charged for each child not picked up by 12:05pm (for half-day camp) or 4:05pm.
