Joy Christian School ~ Team Taurus
2006 Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge
Winning Space Station

2006 Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge

In front of five NASA astronauts, with scientific and engineering experts from Honeywell, a team of four students from Joy Christian School of Glendale defended their International Space Station project with oral presentations and an intense question and answer session. They won the trip of a lifetime when they were declared the First Place winners in the 2006 Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge held at the Challenger Space Center in Peoria.

The competition is designed to enhance students’ knowledge of space and science technology through the development of a new generation of the International Space Station. The team, including their teacher, will be flown to the Houston Space Center where they will experience a behind-the-scenes look at a NASA launch facility, as well as an on-field appearance at the 2007 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona and a simulated space flight mission for their classroom at the Challenger Space Center.

Taught by Joe Martin, the 6th grade team members are: Courtney Clark, John Michael Drag, Madelynn Fretto and Jessica Morgan. Their project name: Taurus.

The Aerospace Challenge is a competition designed to enhance the knowledge of space technology. Each team will be responsible for creating a physical scale model and written report of a "new" generation International Space Station that can accommodate a crew of 100 people for two years.
